Celebrities Switch Back to Streetwear After the Met Gala 2024

Date

The Met Gala ‘Garden of Time’

As expected the Met Gala (May 7th 2024) delivered a breathtaking display of sartorial innovation and creativity. The general theme  of this years Met Gala was the “Garden of Time.” in honour of the current Costume Institute exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. For the women, it was an opportunity to showcase nature inspired looks, in dramatic gowns. See some of our personal favorites below:

Men’s Style at the Met Gala

Perverse Demand’s creative director Nathan Palmer is known for his passion for creating standout bespoke tailoring. As such our interest turned to what the men had done with the theme. With every red carpet—well, green in the case of the 2024 Met Gala, comes a flock of men in tuxedos. Who stepped away from the classic black or monochrome look in honour of this famous event? Take a look at the fits below, from a literal take on the ‘Garden’ theme to a T-Shirt which looks like a sand sculpture of the wearer (and don’t miss the bag!). We also love the traditional ‘buttonhole’ attached to a cape length jacket rather than the classic tux.

The Aftermath

The Met Gala is a high profile invite only event with the attendees attracting the attention of the press before and after the event. After the glitz and glamour of the ‘green’ carpet, the fashion world shifted its gaze to the streets. Celebrities continued to captivate with their post-event attire, particularly in the realm of streetwear. Streetwear, once relegated to urban environments and casual settings, has evolved into a high-fashion statement, blending comfort with couture in a seamless fusion. Take a look at Barry Keoghan below and his switch from eleven clad ‘Mad Hatter’ to the ever essential Nike AF1 paired with oversized street style.

The morning after the Met Gala even celebrities who held on to their formal attire, for the after parties, were spotted donning streetwear ensembles that effortlessly melded luxury with urban edge. Statement sneakers prevailed, with celebrities opting for limited-edition releases and customized kicks to add a personalized touch to their outfits. Oversized sunglasses, bucket hats, and crossbody bags adorned with logos further emphasized the intersection of luxury and urban aesthetics.

In essence, streetwear worn by celebrities after the Met Gala 2024 epitomized the evolution of urban fashion into a sophisticated art form, where comfort meets couture, and individuality reigns supreme. With each sidewalk serving as a runway, celebrities showcased their sartorial creativity and cemented streetwear’s status as a formidable force in the realm of high fashion.
